Ubuntu v8.04 (Installed form the EMC2 live CD available from Video cards form nvidia (with the propitiatory drivers installed) do not require this workaround, other video chipsets such as ATI may or may not need this workaround to get 3d Apps runnign under Wine.įor the record here is my system configuration and what was installed to get this working: This is what it fix looked like on the other system:ħ) Logout or reboot to restart the X11 windowing system so the change can take effect This is what it looked like on another system that this proceedure was tested on:ĥ) Add the line to disable the DRI functions This is what it looked like on one of my systems: Gksudo cp /etc/X11/nf /etc/X11/ģ) Edit the config file, enter your password if promptedĤ) Look for a section that looks like this (the exact wording on each system will be different): ( I never ever thought I would be using Linux, let alone promoting it.)Ĭode: Select all 1) Open a terminal windowĢ) Back up your current configuration, enter your password when prompted But after that, you will find it quite easy to use. PS When you first test this version of Linux ( Ubuntu) be prepared for maybe a day of getting used to finding out where every thing is, and its differences. I am a rare MS lover, but I must say, Linux is slowly stealing my attention especially since it has LOADS of free software too. You can get that from here once you have installed Linux īTW Linux has REALLY come of age and is far better than when I looked at it years ago. You will need to also install WINE ( Free) that allows you to install and run VCarve and Cut3D. You can download the Linux CD that also contains EMC (The CNC controller) from here. You could save many hundreds of dollars this way. This is great because it also means you don't have to buy windows or any machine controlling software, because you get it all free in Linux. I have installed both VCarve and Cut3D in Linux under WINE and they both are working fine.įor all those using EMC this now means you don't need to work with windows and then boot into Linux.
